Tasty musak!

Just caught a sweet groove on Sirius, it’s ‘Dice’ by ‘Finley Quaye’. I found it on his album, ‘Much more than much love’. It looks like William Orbit worked on this one too, that explains why it drew me in so quickly! I must track this down to see if the rest of the album is as good.

OSCON & more..

07.27.2004

Several weeks ago I registered to volunteer at the Open Source Convention up in Portland (in progress right now!) on Monday, July 26th. Well that day came and passed, I had a good time up at the convention volunteering as a door guard and answering questions.. I had a brief chance to talk with Larry Wall , the creator of one of my favorite programming languages PERL. Larry was demonstrating Aikido in a session called ‘Presentation Aikido’ which I unfortunately wasn’t able to watch.

While up in Portland, Paul and I stopped off at Powell’s Bookstore.. Whoa! Powell’s has quite an inventory of books.. I was surprised to find they have a whole section devoted to Chess, Go and Shogi. I was surpised again to find ‘Lessons in the fundaments of Go’ written by Toshiro Kageyama (7Dan). I’ve heard from numerous people on the web that this book is worth its weight in gold so I picked up a copy. Over the next several weeks as I consume this information, we’ll see how my rating is affected.

Welp, it’s Tuesday and time to get busy on the work that has been piling up in my inbox.

Weekend!

07.23.2004

The weekend is here thank goodness! I heard from the doctor yesterday about my tailbone (story to come in a second) and the MRI came back with nothing out of the ordinary so I’m scheduled to see a specialist of some sort.
Here’s the tailbone story
Feb 22 (me and my wife’s anniversary by the way!) I was riding in the car over to Bend. We got to the Bend outlet mall and my bottom was sore from the car ride over the mountain. I got out of the car and sneezed. The act of sneezing did something to my tailbone, at the time I felt a little *pop* and ever since then I can’t sit without pain for more than 20 minutes or so unless I’m in a very comfortable spot. I saw on some paperwork that the doctor says my symptoms are ‘coccxydynia’ which is ‘tailbone pain’. I’ve heard from others that it’s likely to be soft tissue damage and going to take a long time to heal. So I was hoping that the MRI would show something and the doctor would tell me ‘ah hah! this is easy to fix’.. not the case. I’ve read some personal experiences with this on the web and some people it heals up relatively fast and others have this (with quite a bit more pain than I currently do) for several (one lady had 15 years) months or even years. I’m trying to keep high spirits that it will heal..

Enough of that, have a good weekend.. I know I will!

Lakeside Review

07.19.2004

Lakeside golf course is located in Lincoln City, OR. In my opinion, greens fee’s were reasonable for the quality of the course, the fees were $45 for 18 holes. I would definitely consider renting a cart next time because this course has some pretty serious elevation, it seems like every hole is uphill, downhill, or both.

The hole 6 tee box sets up high on a hill and the fairway stretches out down the hill with a dog leg to the right. I got lucky and had a nice drive which with the serious drop in elevation to the bottom of the hill was probably 280yds. I was surprised to see my drive left me within chipping distance of the green. It was fun to watch the ball sail down the hill, it seemed like it sailed forever. Infact, there are several parts of this course which make for nice looking shots sailing down hills .. sometimes those balls end up in swampy areas, water, sand, some person’s house, and occasionally on the fairway.

Lakeside was a challenging course because of all of the hills and the water hazards. I lost several balls and had to resort to using my yellow balls..wimpy! (note to self: buy more balls)

I would recommend this course to everyone, it was a nice (and tiring) walk..
