westerngo ladder project
Over at www.westerngo.org , I’m developing a game Ladder in PHP which will eliminate the need for manual updating of the current Ladder, which is rather cumbersome in comparison. For a sneak peek at it, check www.westerngo.org/ladder_test/ .. I can’t guarantee that it will be live and available at all times, but I tend to upload my updates to keep the thing functional between updates. The languages I do most of my development in are java, .NET (C#, ASP, etc), and perl.. I found PHP to be a simple language to pick up and run with, and for web development, I like PHP a lot more than perl at this point.
Groovy
Sunday afternoon chillin’.. We’ve heard this song a number of times on the Sirius (Chill electronica) channel and think it’s quite the bomb, ‘Kneuddelmaus’ by Ulrich Schnauss.
cheers!
Fall is here!
Well, here we are into the second day of Fall and I’m loving the weather. This week we’re having mid 70’s and clear skies!! Perfect! With all good things, there are bad.. and the bad news is that school starts up next week. It won’t be all that difficult, I’m taking ‘Introduction to history of Rock music’ and ‘Introduction to Microsoft Windows’… both will be a peice of cake.
*Go news*
I’ve recently realized some new things with this game and actually feel like my game is starting to get stronger again. I’ve had a couple of games reviewed by professionals and that has helped tremendously..now the goal is to make use of the things they are teaching me. This game is quite a trip, I highly recommend people give it a try, maybe not the extent that I have, but try it a couple of times and you might get hooked!
*Tailbone update*
Still making little or no progress on the tailbone.. I’ve been doing my stretching and exercises atleast once a day (sometimes twice) and the issue remains. I might continue doing physical therapy for a little while but I suspect the doctor is going to want to try something different, such as a cortizone (sp?) shot.. One nice thing about physical therapy is it has started to help me get into gear with regard to losing some weight and eating better..
Shodan Challenge
This year I have entered the Shodan Challenge, which is a challenge for Go players to reach 1 (one) Dan level before the following years US Go Congress. In 2005, the US Go Congress is being held in Tacoma, WA and will be a 9 day convention of Go tournaments, professional lecture and lessons, and game after game. Currently I am ranked around 11 Kyu on KGS which means I need to improve my skill level by 11 stones of strength which is about 1.5 times the improvement I’ve made in the past year. In short, it’s going to be quite a challenge and unless I make a couple pretty significant strength improvements it’s going to be hard but I enjoy playing the game and reading my books so I think I’m up for the challenge.
*Tailbone update*
I’ve been doing physical therapy for 5 or 6 weeks now and still am not seeing drastic improvement in my tailbone..this thing is a slow healer! I did noticed today that the pain I get from sitting and standing up afterward seems to be less intense and shorter length..maybe that’s indication that my muscles are stronger and are putting less pressure on my tailbone. I hope so!
