I got shot… again!

01.15.2005

Well, ouch! I got another steroid shot in my tailbone on Friday. This one hurts just as bad as I remember the first one..thankfully we were prepared with the pain killer situation and got a prescription ready for shortly after the procedure. I’m really hoping that this one will help take care of the rest of the inflammation around my coccyx (tailbone) but I won’t really know for about a week. Until then, I’m hanging out on the recliner or trying to lay back and stay off of my butt. I really must say that the people at ‘Northwest Pain Management’ in Salem are top notch folks.. The IV, preparation, and procedure itself went smoothly and no one cracked any jokes about my rotundness of the gluteous either! haha

Dorothy Helton, rest in peace.

01.13.2005

Saturday, January 8th, Wendie’s grandma, Dorothy, passed away in her sleep. Grandma had been through years of medical ups and downs and we’re glad that she’s without pain and in a much better place now. She will be missed by everyone, rest in peace. We went to the services on Thursday, January 13, at ‘The Church on the Hill’ just outside of Salem, Or. The services were held, atleast in part, by grandma’s pastor of so many years and I think he did a very good job. We went to the grave side services and said our good byes, and the entire family shared in an outpour of emotion together. Grandma’s resting spot is under a quite nice tree next to her husband, son, and nephew. The plot faces some green pastures in the distant Willamette Valley, next time we’re up there I may just take a picture and post it here.

Salem Go Tournament

01.10.2005

Yesterday was a 3 round Go Tournament up at Willamette University in Salem, OR. Jim L. was the tournament director and he did quite a good job at it with only a few glitches in getting the tournament software to behave as expected. The turnout was excellent with 36 players and once things were in full swing everybody seemed to have a great time. The tournament consisted of four divisions:

1. Dan ranked players (1dan - 9dan)
2. Single digit Kyu players (1kyu - 9kyu)
3. Double digit Kyu players (10kyu - 20+ kyu)
4. Players under 12 years old. (or was it 13?)

I registered as 12kyu (my current ranking is 14kyu, so I ’self promoted’) and won 2 of my 3 games. I tied for second place in my division with only 1 loss which was lost to the person I tied with. All in all, I had a great time playing 3 tournament (serious) games and I’m really happy with how I played and my score.. plus I won a little cash.

For Christmas this year my wife bought us a new digital camera which I packed along and got some good pictures. I’ll post some pictures as soon as I’ve resized them and they won’t be a bear to view.

Edit 1/19 : I added an ‘action shot’ of me making a move against my opponent, I’m on the left.. I nearly lost this game.

New Years Resolutions

01.01.2005

I like to start off a new year with some goals in mind.. I figure if I can stick to three simple resolutions that I will be a much happier person.

1. Take daily vitamins. (multi, C, E.. you know)
2. Read more. (novels, Go, technology)
3. Make at least 30 minutes of exercise part of my daily routine. (Just like I shower daily and eat food daily)

Wish me luck!
