Go tournament weekend
This past weekend was the Oregon Spring Go Tournament which I had the delight to attend. There were nearly 40 people in attendance which makes this the biggest Go tournament in Oregon. My tailbone has been slowly degrading back to how it was before my last cortisone shot, so after the second round I left because I just couldn’t see sitting for another 2 or 3 hours.. it was a fun time though and I won a game and lost a game.
I am small.
Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida has put up a very interesting page at the following link:
http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/index.html
The applet starts at a distance of 10 million light years from earth and zooms in by a magnitude of 10 all the way to the quarks in the nucleus of an oak tree. This is well worth a viewing just to give you a strong dose of perspective of how small we are.
Have a good weekend!
Go tools..
Here’s a very interesting tool to analyze Go games/moves:
It seems like an interesting idea, displaying the properties and potential of each move with respect to the local position as well as the whole board position.. time will tell how accurate it is, but it’s definitely a nice idea for a different perspective on how to look at the board.
With Teeth…
It’s been a long long (6 years) time since Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor) released some brand new music but the day has come.. “With Teeth” was released on 5/2 and I’m fricking excited to go get it. The single ‘the hand that feeds’ is available in its entirety (even better, you can mix the audio tracks) on the NIN website. “With Teeth” is the 18th official offering that Trent has made to his audience and as such it is archived as ‘Halo 18′. Since the beginning, Trent has cleverly archived his material in halos, for instance Halo 5 is the CD titled ‘Broken’ which was released in 1992 and is still one of my favorite albums of all time… infact, my handle on nearly all Internet services is ‘Halo5′ for that reason. I’ve been a big fan of Nine Inch Nails since around 1990 and continue to be amazed by the quality and power of the music that Trent Reznor creates and I’m positive that this cd will be no different..
