Tailbone RF Lesioning procedure done..
I had my tailbone nerves zapped by radio frequency today, and now I’m just kinda laying around all loopy from the meds. The procedure was fairly quick, but it still took around 2 hours including all of the prepartion and waiting in the queue. My butt is still numb and the procedure was done by about noon, so they must have used some powerful anesthetics.. The procedure is carried out by injecting a probe directly into the nerve on both sides of my tailbone and then heated to 190F for 90 seconds. Ofcourse I’m under some heavy narcotics so it feels relatively painless at the time. The hope with this procedure is that the nerves are killed and I won’t feel pain any longer.. Or atleast for quite a long time. It’s been almost 16 months to the day since I’ve had tailbone pain and hopefully this will be the last week of it. I’ll post as things progress, but until then I’ll likely be layed out on the couch or bed playing Go or surfing the web.
Learning more about Go, an introspective look at ones self
It has been said that a persons qualities (good and bad) show up on the goban. Last night I played a 3 stone handicap game that I was really happy with. I should state that I was really happy with the game regardless of whether or not I would lose..this particular game is an eye opener for me. While I did win by resignation, I should have lost.. After losing the lower right corner to my opponent I realized that I should not be afraid and that I should fight as hard as I could. While my opponent made several mistakes, likely because they felt that it was going to be an easy win, I kept pressing as hard as I could to close the gap in points.. I was hoping to grind out a very small loss or possibly even a win by a point or two but my opponent let me take the game by much more. I’m linking to the game that I commented for myself and anyone else who might want to waste 5 minutes or so taking a peek.
TODO:
I need to investigate and possibly implement an open source SGF viewer so that I can replay the games over the web rather than linking to the file.
Tailbone update!
I went to see the doctor this week to discuss my tailbone.. About 4 months or so after the most recent cortisone shot my tailbone pain is returning. This may be caused by my sitting quite a bit lately, my gaining a few (more) extra pounds, or my terrible slouching habits.. or maybe it’s just naturally going to come back.. I don’t know. Anyway, the doctor is going to try another procedure on me called RF lesioning (radio frequency to essentially kill the nerves in my tailbone). It’s not going to be comfortable but they have high hopes of long(er) term relief.. I’m crossing my fingers!
I’ll post a report when it happens and when I’m starting to feel better again..
