Gorillaz - Demon Days

07.31.2006

Rocking the ‘Demon Days’ cd by Gorillaz this morning. The song “Dirty Harry” was one of the most popular of the tracks being played on the radio all the time, but the whole CD is as good if not better. “Kids with guns” and “Fire coming out of a monkeys head” are some of my favorites.. even so, by a narrow margin. That’s how good this CD is!

Happy freaky monday!

Floyd Landis accused of doping.. DOH!

07.27.2006

I’m really hoping that the reports are false or there was some mistake in finding Floyd Landis guilty of doping during the Tour de France. This guy showed some serious heart and has balls of steel regardless of doping or not, but if he is guilty of doping then he doesn’t deserve the title… I’m really pulling for this guy, I’m withholding judgement until the final verdict has been reached. Damn, this bites.. I hadn’t heard of Floyd before the Tour this year but I was impressed by his comeback and taking the title so I hope he’s deserving.

Tailbone update (piriformis syndrome?)

07.14.2006

Yesterday I went up to OHSU and met with a doctor to discuss the chronic pain I have been dealing with for the past 2.5 years as well as all of the things I’ve tried to this point. The appointment went really well as he and his resident had researched my condition the day before. They explained that my condition might be caused by the sciatic nerve getting bothered by my piriformis. I’ve since read that around 15% of people are born with the sciatic nerve peircing through the piriformis and are more prone to have some pain from it. The doctors I met yesterday associated the “Piriformis Syndrome“, in part, with the fact that I’ve sat in front of computers for a very long time resulting in an under developed (or strengthened?) piriformis. I need to do my ab exercises and I need to stretch. I’m due to have another MRI of my pelvis so they can determine whether or not they have identified the cause. After the MRI I’ll meet with Dr. Yoo, who has much experience with the condition as well as having good results with fixing patients. If recommended, I may have surgery to relieve the sciatic nerve of the piriformis but we’ll just have to wait and see… So, some good news and some unsettling news. I’m always apprehensive of surgery, I kinda like to avoid people cutting into me for some reason. Anyway, more to come in a few weeks..

Updated 8/3 : Went up to Portland yesterday for another MRI and to meet with the doctor regarding the piriformis syndrome.. I certainly don’t have piriformis syndrome and shouldn’t consider surgery. While it’s nice to eliminate a possiblity, it’s disheartening that I still don’t know what the problem is. Doc says that the inflammation in this area is hard to get rid of because we tend to sit a lot and told me that if I sit with a folded bed sheet (an inch and a half thick) under my right thigh to take pressure off of my butt, the pain will likely disappear. So, I’m going to give it a shot, but I’m still frustrated in having no clue why I have this pain.. sucky news, I’ll get over it.

Parkour, a new “sport”?!

07.12.2006

I stumbled across a video on Google of some people doing “Parkour”.. Basically it’s like Jackie Chan style running through urban-like places and jumping from one thing to another.. or like jumping down the side of the building from one rail to another. Anyway, it’s basically insane. I’m sure the health insurance companies love this! It was a lot of fun to watch a video though.. This guy is sick, check his video out -> http://www.parkour-videos.com/videos/speed-air-man-david-belle

Of course wikipedia has http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour , and here’s a community site for it, http://parkour.net/ .

I find it really interesting the stress that “they” put on the discipline, not unlike martial arts, on this emerging sport.. Interesting stuff.
