Sudoku taken to sickening new heights..

07.26.2007

Mmkay, so you’ve heard of Sudoku or you may even be treating your own addiction.. Well, I’m here to introduce you to an evolution of Sudoku which I’m pretty sure breaks laws somewhere in the world. Hold on.. I’ll let your cold sweaty palms chill out for a second

Ok, I trust you’ve regained composure.. Before I link you to the web site, here’s a brief description of the (fairly) new variations of the original.. this may be confusing, and you’ll likely need to just “check them out”, but here goes:
Killer Sudoku : Instead of giving you numbers to start with, the grid is marked up showing you the sum of several collections of boxes. Standard Sudoku rules apply, you just have to do some math too.

GT (Greater Than) Sudoku : Instead of giving you numbers, or even the sum of collections on the grid, you get only notations on which cells are greater than the cells which surround it (but you don’t get ALL of the neighboring cells marked).

GT Killer (Greater Than Killer) Sudoku : This is a mish mash of both Killer and GT sudoku, some collections are defined like the Killer sudoku, and the collections are marked with a greater than sign of some neighboring collections.

This is old, over a year, but a friend at work emailed me a set of links that I think are just hilarious.. Again, I’m amazed at the utter lack of intelligence that some of our elected officials flaunt around without even realizing it. For real, this guy probably thinks that he really does understand the Internet….and that makes for some great laughs. I’ve caught my breath, wiped the tears from my eyes, and now its time to share the joy with y’all.

The first two links should be watched so you know where the hilarity started:

Be OS, reborn as Haiku!

07.16.2007

I found an article on Slashdot that reminded me of the good ol’ days of the operating system Be… I used to use this a bit in the mid and late 90’s, mainly as a hacker toy and as an alternative to the crappiness of Windows. I’ll skip the long love story about this operating system and summarize that its quite pimp and it was (and still is even though its retired, hahah) well ahead of its time… too bad they just couldn’t get a big enough following to keep them alive, and eventually the Palm company bought Be and shut it down. Good news for me and maybe you, I found BeOS has been reborn as Haiku and looks like its still being developed, but now as open source! Sweet. :)

Anyhow, take a peek at the video link I’m posting below, its a corporate demo of the operating system.. rather dated, but you’ll see a few things that Be did (and probably still does!!) way better than Windows ever could. Here are a few notes, if you want to skip to a few of the more interesting points in the video:

12:30 - Lets see Windows (or OSX) do something like this without noticeable slowdowns

13:00 - This is fricking sweet, direct access to every audio channel and realtime manipulation of each with no skips!
15:30 - Realtime video editing with no noticeable slowdowns, most consumer PC’s would choke hard on something like this

17:00 - Putting BeOS to the test, EVEN with only half of the processors available it still doesn’t choke too hard when running at full capacity

Watch the video!
